Sony C660X Yuga may be christened as Xperia Z at launch

Sony’s upcoming flagship have been cited by its codename C660X Yuga over the last few weeks , but now, prior to its official launch that’s expected to turn up on the Consumer Electronics Show 2013, this handset might be launched as Xperia Z, a report by Xperia Blog states.

Apart from this knowledge in regards to the naming of the model, the Xperia Z may also have an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of IP55 and IP57, making it both dust and water-resistant. This selection is in accordance with previous rumours about the various salient features of the Sony Xperia Z. The general dimensions of the impending smartphone are believed to be 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm.

The Sony Yuga C660X will emerge as generally known as Xperia Z

Sources have also informed Xperia Blog that the 5-inch 1080p display that sports a pixel density of 443ppi may even feature OptiContrast technology, a trait which is usually present in Sony televisions.

The report notes, “The main advantage of an OptiContrast panel is low reflection because of a unique resin layer that absorbs any diffused light delivered from the backlight. You’re left with a display delivering vivid colours, high contrast levels and a true sense of depth.”

It was earlier reported that the Sony Yuga C660X were given the hands-on treatment by a Russian website and additional information in regards to the device were revealed. The largest thing appears to be the minimalism with regards to design. The telephone has no touch or hardware keys on the front and uses on-screen buttons for navigation. Even the back side of the device is related to be plain, with just a 12-megapixel camera offering decoration.

The main selling point of the telephone may be the screen-the device sports a 5-inch screen with a 1080p resolution. This provides the telephone a pixel density of 440 ppi. The display isn’ while the screen shows good colour reproduction for multimedia apps using the Sony Bravia engine, other apps don’t fare to boot. Viewing angles are lower and the backlight is visible within the black areas of images.

The phone also comes with other basic features including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi at the a/b/g/n networks, LTE and a MicroSD slot. It’d be worth noting that the C660X Yuga supports SDXC format cards though, effectively pushing the utmost memory card size as much as 128GB.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the C660X Yuga will sport a tumbler back. If this handset does indeed include a glass rear panel , then it could follow within the footsteps of the iPhone 4/4S and the Google flagship smartphone, the Nexus 4.

The good thing about having a pitcher back is that it makes the design of the smartphone exceptional. However, there are various disadvantages that could outweigh that sole feature. Having a tumbler panel on the back makes the handset prone to cracks and damages. One might want to be extremely careful while handling this device.
